LTC605: Islamic Foundations: A Christian Analysis of Islam's Source Documents
This is the Lilias Trotter Center's first global course, running April 1, 2015 to Sept 18, 2015.
This course undertakes a distinctively Christian study of the Islamic source documents so that students are able to understand Islam from within its sacred texts. This primary-source study examines the Qur'an, Hadith and Sira and takes students through the entire Qur'an in the chronological order suggested by the Sira (biography of Muhammad).
First you will complete assigned reading, provide written assignments and participate in virtual discussion groups online with faculty and fellow students. Then you will engage with the course material and LTC faculty in person in a ten-day residential in Orlando, FL. Finally you will complete research and reflection on a topic related to the course content and your particular interest.
